Bhubaneswar: While hot and sultry weather conditions are back in Odisha, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued yellow warning for thunderstorm with lightning at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Mayurbhanj and Balasore till 8.30 am on Tuesday.
While there are no warnings thereafter, coastal and southern districts in the state are likely to experience light to moderate rain for the next 5 days.
The MeT office further said that the day temperature is likely to rise further by by 2 to 3°C during the next 2 days with no large change thereafter. Consequently, the mercury may soar to 40°C or more at a few places during the next 4-5 days. “Odisha is likely experience hot and discomfort weather during this period. People are advised to take precautionary measures while going outside,” it added.

By 2.30 pm, Sambalpur was the hottest in the state at 41.2°C followed by Jharsuguda (40.6), Hirakud (39.6), Chandbali (38.2), Bhubaneswar (37.4), Keonjhar (36), Balasore (34.6) and Puri (34.4).
Odisha capital had recorded 31°C by 8.30 am and a humidity of 85%. It is likely to touch 39°C this afternoon.
On Sunday, the mercury had soared to 40°C and more at 7 places in the state. Angul recorded the highest temperature of 41.7°C in the state, followed by Boudh with 41.5°C, Talcher 41°C, Jharsuguda 40.8°C, Sambalpur 40.3°C and Balangir and Sambalpur at 40°C each.
