Day Temp To Fall In Odisha Amid Intense Thunderstorm Activity After 2 Heatwave Days

Bhubaneswar: Odisha can expect some relief from the sweltering heat with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday predicting a fall in the day temperature by 2-4 degrees after 2 days amid intense thunderstorm activity.

According to the midday bulletin, heatwave conditions may continue at isolated places in the districts of Sambalpur, Boudh, Sonepur, and Balangir on May 25; and Sambalpur, Boudh, Sonepur, Balangir, Nuapada and Kalahandi on May 26. Sambalpur and Balangir may also experience warm nights during this period.

Hot and humid weather conditions may continue in the coastal districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Puri, Khurda, Gajapati, Ganjam, Jajpur and Nayagarh till May 29.

Meanwhile, thunderstorm activity with gusty wind may continue till June 2 as a cyclonic circulation persists over northwest Odisha.

The MeT office has warned of thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (50-60 kmph) in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj on May 27. Similar weather conditions with wind speed of 40-50 kmph may occur during this period in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda and Nayagarh.

panied by lightning and gusty surface wind (50-60 kmph) has been issued in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Cuttack, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj. Similar weather conditions with wind speed of 40-50 kmph may occur during this period in Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda and Nayagarh.

There is a warning for heavy rainfall in Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj on May 29, and Sundargarh, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj on May 30.

On May 29, thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (50-60 kmph) may also continue in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj. Similar weather conditions with wind speed of 40-50 kmph may occur during this period in Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda and Nayagarh.

On May 30, thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (50-60 kmph) may prevail  in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places in the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj. Similar weather conditions with wind speed of 40-50 kmph may occur during this period in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda and Nayagarh.

Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (30-40 kmph) is also likely in Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Nabarangpur.

While there is no orange warning thereafter, thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (30-40 kmph) may continue in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khurda and Nayagarh on June 1-2.
