Days After IAS Coaching Centre Deaths, Toddler Among 3 Killed In Waterlogged Jaipur Basement

Jaipur: Days after three UPSC aspirants drowned to death in the basement of Rau’s IAS Study Circle in Delhi, the administration has sealed a number of coaching centres operating from basements as heavy rains continue to batter north India.

In a tragedy of similar proportions, three people — including a toddler, died on Thursday after being stuck in a waterlogged basement of a residential building in Jaipur.

According to police, 4 people went missing after the basement of the apartment in Jaipur’s Vishwakarma area got waterlogged.

“Around 13 people got stuck in the basement which was submerged in under 12 feet of water. An SDRF team was immediately called to the spot and nine people were rescued, while others were missing,” said DCP (West) Amit Kumar.

Following an eight-hour search, the SDRF team found the bodies of three missing people, including a four-year-old girl, while one was safely rescued.

The bodies of the deceased, who are from two families, have been sent to Kanwatiya Government Hospital for post-mortem, police said.

Elsewhere in Jaipur, SDRF is searching for a minor boy who was washed away due to an overflowing drain in Bagru area.

Jaipur airport’s entrance was waterlogged, as were Sikar and Ajmer roads, affecting traffic movement.

A number of schools in the Rajasthan capital were closed amid heavy rains.
