Bhubaneswar: Tension prevailed at an engineering college hostel in Bhubaneswar after a dead lizard was found in the mess food on Friday.
According to sources, the dead reptile was spotted by a student in potato curry served for dinner last night which led to a chaos.
As the situation worsened Chandrasekharpur police rushed to the hostel and interacted with authorities and the students.
According to the students, this was not the first such instance, earlier worms were found in soyabean curry served for dinner, they said.
The matter came under control after the hostel superintendent admitted the fault and said such incident will not be repeated, sources added.
Local police said, food officials will be asked to mount surveillance on hostel food provided at colleges to ensure hygiene and quality.
