Bhadrak: A youth, who was declared dead by doctors at Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) on Saturday, was found to be alive just before his postmortem.
Reports said Sujit Khatua (25) of Khatuapatna village under Dhusuri police limits was admitted to hospital in an unconscious state on Saturday night. After examining him, the on-duty doctor, Dr. Karunakar Rout, declared him dead and referred him for postmortem, which was scheduled for Sunday morning.
But the ‘dead’ man was seen moving his hands, legs and eyes and was immediately taken to the medicine ward for treatment.
Once the blunder was noticed, tension ran high on the hospital premises, with the patient’s family demanding arrest and suspension of the ‘irresponsible’ doctor. Bhadrak town police arrived at the hospital to bring the situation under control. A complaint was then filed against the doctor.
The district collector has ordered an investigation into the incident and directed the sub-collector to submit a report, following which appropriate action will be taken against the accused.
