Puri: Fear of bird flu outbreak spread as some crows were found dead at different places of Konark in Odisha’s Puri district on Sunday.
According to sources, the locals spotted the dead crows in the area under one km radius of Konark. Though the cause of the crows dropping dead has not been ascertained, it triggered panic in the area as it has come a few days after the outbreak of bird flu in the district.
The local administration has appealed to the people not to panic and assured them of taking steps to know the exact cause of the crows’ death. The samples of dead crows would be collected and sent to the laboratory for test, said the sources.
It may be noted that the state government has imposed a three-month ban on sale of poultry products in Puri and Kendrapada districts after bird flu was confirmed in the two districts earlier this month.
The government had engaged 51 Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) for culling, disposal of birds and sanitation in infected zone. More than 35,000 birds had been culled in the areas affected by bird flu in the state.
