Bhadrak: Tension prevailed in a private clinic after the death of a child as his family members attacked the staff alleging negligence in treatment in Odisha’s Bhadrak town on Sunday.
According to sources, the family of 11-year-old Rajmohan Panda of Karanjadia village admitted him in the private clinic near Aradi Square under Bhadrak rural police station due to illness. After checking the boy, Dr Kamala Kant Swain prescribed an injection and directed the staff to put him under oxygen supply for revival of sense.
Soon after the injection was administered, Rajmohan’s condition deteriorated and he succumbed. Following this, his family members beat up the clinic staff alleging that they had applied wrong injection that led to the boy’s death. They also damaged the furniture. When Dr Swain rushed to pacify the family members, he banged against a door and sustained injury on the head.
On being informed, police reached the clinic and brought the situation under control. They sent the boy’s body to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) till taking next course of action.
Speaking to the media, Dr Swain refuted the allegation of the family members and said there was nothing wrong with the injection. “I had checked the vial before application. It is a life-saving injection. After taking necessary urgent medical measures, I had advised the boy’s attendants to take him to DHH as his condition was critical. There was no negligence on part of any staff of the clinic,” he said.
