Death Threat To College Principal Ahead Of Student Union Polls In Odisha

Sonpur: The principal of Siddhartha Degree College at Binika in Odisha’s Subarnapur district reportedly received a death threat on Wednesday after a threatening message was found on a piece of white cloth placed near the campus gate.

The incident took place amid ongoing campaigning for the student union election scheduled to be held on Thursday. Candidates have been making efforts to garner students’ support ahead of the polls.

The banner warned the principal to stay away from the student union election, failing which he would be killed. College staff noticed the banner in the morning and informed the principal, Dhirendra Nayak.

The message accused the college principal of supporting a particular group in the student union elections and warned him against interfering in the electoral process.

“Principal, you are supporting a particular group in the student union elections. Stay away from the elections, or you will be killed,” the message read.

Following a complaint, a police team visited the spot and launched an investigation into the incident. They are trying to identify those responsible for putting up the threatening message.

The banner was seized and police personnel were deployed at the college campus as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order.

The incident has created tension on the college campus ahead of the student union elections.
