Nuapada: A debt-ridden farmer allegedly committed suicide at Larka village under Bheden block in Nuapada district on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as Jadu Bagh.
According to villagers, Jadu consumed poison after suffering crop loss as he was not in a position to repay a loan amount of Rs 40,000 that he had taken from private money lenders to raise crops on his six acres of land.
Earlier on September 13, a farmer in Dhenkanal district committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree. His family members alleged that he took the extreme step after failing to repay the crop loans borrowed from different sources.
