Bargarh: A farmer reeling under debt allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison at Chiroli village under Ambabhona block in Bargarh district on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Seshadev Saha.
“Seshadev took the extreme after he failed to pay back loans. Though the farmer was rescued and admitted to hospital, he succumbed while undergoing treatment”, a villager said.
The farmer had taken a loan of Rs 88, 000 from three different banks to cultivate crops on three acres of land. But he could not pay the loan dues due to crop failure as a result of inadequate rainfall, the villager added.
