December-January Weather Pattern Remains Same In Odisha: IMD

Bhubaneswar: Weather pattern in Odisha in December 2020-January 2021 remained almost same as previous decade, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday.

Releasing an analysis of the weather pattern in Odisha during the period, the IMD said dry weather prevailed in all districts except isolated rain in some parts on January 30.

The monthly mean minimum and maximum temperatures during the period were above normal by 2 degree Celsius in December 2020 at some places over northeast Odisha. However, monthly mean minimum temperatures were near normal during December 2020 in most of the places except Sambalpur where it was above normal by more than 2 degree C, according to a press release of the IMD.

On the cold wave condition, the IMD said a few places in interior Odisha experienced it from December 21 to 24, 2020. In January 2021, only Jharsuguda district had cold wave condition for two days.

Following is the year-wise rainfall report in the state in December-January for 10 years:

2011: 9.9 mm rainfall in January while 0.9 mm in December
2012: 55.4 mm rainfall in January while 3.6 mm in December
2013: 3.4 mm rainfall in January while 0.0 mm in December
2014: 0.0 mm rainfall in January while 1.1 mm in December
2015: 15.0 mm rainfall in January while 15.4 mm in December
2016: 2.2 mm rainfall in January while 0.5 mm in December
2017: 1.7 mm rainfall in January while 4.8 mm in December
2018: 0.0 mm rainfall in January while 56.4 mm in December
2019: 1.3 mm rainfall in January while 1.8 mm in December
2020: 16.3 mm rainfall in January while 0.0 mm in December
2021: 1.2 mm rainfall in January, December’s not mentioned.
