Bhubaneswar: Odisha government has recommended that the Centre should declare the relaxation in quality norms of paddy without value-cut as was done during kharif marketing season- 2010-11.
The Government of India has declared relaxation in quality norms of paddy in 15 out of 19 unseasonal rains-affected districts like Cuttack, Jajpur, Khurda, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Bhadrak, Balasore, Boudh, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Puri and Ganjam. But, the relaxation has been declared with full value-cut only by enhancing the parameters of damaged, discoloured, sprouted and weevilled grains up to 12 percent against the existing limit of 5 percent, official sources said.
The declared relaxation with full value-cut is detrimental to the interests of farmers. On the other hand, with such relaxation in refractions of paddy, it will be difficult to get FAQ quality rice to be distributed under public distribution system, the sources added.
