Bhubaneswar: In view of deep depression over East Equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal, the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) here on Saturday issued Distant Cautionary Signal Number One (DC-1) warning at all ports in Odisha.
A latest bulletin issued by the Met Centre said, “Deep depression over East Equatorial Indian Ocean and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal moved north-northwestwards with a speed of 18 kmph in last six hours and lay centred at 8.30 am today, about 850 km east-southeast of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka). It is very likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm during next six hours and further into a severe cyclonic storm during subsequent 24 hours.”
“It is very likely to move northwestwards off Sri Lanka coast during next 72 hours and reach near north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh coast on April 30 evening,” it added.
Though cyclone Fani which is likely to hit the North coast of Tamil Nadu on April 30 may have no impact in Odisha, the Met office has issued deep sea warning for the fishermen for the next five days. Gale winds, speed reaching 90-100 kmph Gusting to 115 kmph, are likely over southwest Bay of Bengal along and off Sri Lanka Coast and North Tamil Nadu Coast on April 29 and April 30.
