Deep Depression Over Bay Of Bengal To Intensify Into Cyclone ‘Titli’

Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday said that the depression over the south-east of the central Bay of Bengal which has concentrated into a deep depression on Wednesday morning is gradually moving towards the Andhra and Odisha coast is most likely intensify into a cyclonic storm named as Titli by the evening.

In a release, the IMD said that the deep depression which lies at a distance of 570 km off the Gopalpur coast, is moving towards the coast of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha at 11 kmph. It is most likely turn into a Cyclonic storm in the evening and cross the North Andhra Pradesh and the South Odisha coast in the next 72 hours.

Under its influence, very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall will occur in Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri and Jagatsinghpur districts.

Acting on the IMD forecast, the state government on Monday had asked the district collectors to stay on high alert following the confirmation by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) that the depression has started moving towards the Odisha coast.

“All districts collectors have been asked to stay on high alert and take necessary measures to deal with any eventuality. The collectors have been asked not to grant leave to any government employee. Besides, the leave of the employees working in the office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) and the Odisha State Disaster Mitigation Authority (OSDMA) have been cancelled,” deputy relief commissioner Pravat Mohapatra had told the media.
