Bhubaneswar: The Deep Depression over northwest and adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal is likely to cross Odisha and adjoining Andhra Pradesh coasts close to Gopalpur by evening, the India Meteorological Department said on Thursday.
The system was about 90 km south-southeast of Gopalpur, 140 km east-northeast of Kalingapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), 140 km south-southwest of Puri (Odisha), 230 km east-northeast of Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) and 240 km southwest of Paradip (Odisha) at 11.30 am.
The IMD has warned of scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy falls and thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph at one or two places in the districts of Puri, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Ganjam, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal till Friday morning.
A red warning has been issued for these districts.
Similarly, heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph may occur in Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Dhenkanal, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Balangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Angul, Jajpur, and Kendrapada.
There is also a yellow warning of heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph for Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, and Nuapada districts.
It further stated that squally wind speed reaching 55-65 gusting to 75 kmph may prevail over westcentral & adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal and along and off Andhra Pradesh- Odisha- West Bengal coasts till midnight. Winds would gradually decrease thereafter becoming 40-50 gusting to 60 kmph by October 3 morning and decrease further thereafter.
On October 3, heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may continue in Sundargarh district.
Isolated heavy rainfall along with thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jharsuguda and Bargarh. Thunderstorm/lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may also occur in Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati,Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul and Dhenkanal, it added.
