Bhubaneswar: The deep depression over Bay of Bengal is likely to cross South Odisha-North Andhra Pradesh coasts on Wednesday night, dumping extremely heavy rain with high-speed winds, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
The system moved westwards with a speed of five kmph and lay centred about 50 km southeast of Kalingapatnam, 140 km east-northeast of Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), 150 km south of Gopalpur and 240 km south-southwest of Puri (Odisha).
It is likely to move west-north-westwards, and cross North Andhra Pradesh – South Odisha coasts between Vishakhapatnam & Gopalpur, close to Kalingapatnam as a deep depression by September 23 night, the weather agency said.
Under its influence, heavy to extremely heavy rain accompanied by high-velocity winds is likely to batter several parts of Odisha, particularly southern, western and coastal districts over the next four days. The IMD has issued red, orange and yellow warnings for different districts till the morning of September 28.
Foe the next 24 hours, the IMD has issued a red warning of heavy to extremely heavy rain over the districts of Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput, and Malkangiri. Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind (speed reaching up to 50-60 kmph) may occur some places of Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Malkangiri.
An orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain has been issued for Baragada, Subarnapur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kandhamala, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagada.
Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind may occur at some places over Baragada, Subarnapur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, , Kandhamala, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, Nayagada.
A yellow warning has been issued for the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj.
On September 24-25, a red warning of heavy to extremely heavy rain has been issued for the district of Nabarangpur, while thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind is likely to occur at some places over Nabarangpur.
An orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain has been issued for the districts of Baragada, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Koraput, Malkangiri.

A yellow warning of heavy rainfall was issued for the districts of Baleshwar, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Subarnapur, Boudh, Kandhamala, and Rayagada.
On September 25-26, an orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain has been sounded for the districts of Nuapada, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput, and Malkangiri. Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind may occur in Nuapada, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput, and Malkangiri.
A yellow warning of heavy rain has been issued for the districts of Baragada, Subarnapur, Boudh, Kandhamala, and Rayagada.
On September 26-27, the IMD has issued an orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain for the districts of Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, and Nabarangpur. Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind may occur at one or two places over Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, and Nabarangpur.
A yellow warning of heavy rain has been sounded for Baragada, Subarnapur, Boudh, Kandhamala, Rayagada, and Koraput districts. Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind may occur in Baragada, Subarnapur, Boudh, Kandhamala, Rayagada, and Koraput.
On September 27-28, heavy rainfall is likely to lash the districts of Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, and Sambalpur, where the IMD has issued a yellow warning
Squally weather with wind speed reaching 55-65 kmph occasionally gusting to 75 kmph is likely to prevail along and off Odisha coast. Sea condition is very likely to be rough to very rough along & off the Odisha coast for two days
Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea along & off the Odisha coast till September 25.
