Bhubaneswar: Several parts of Odisha were battered by heavy to very heavy rain as the deep depression over the Bay of Bengal moved towards the coast.
In a special bulletin, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the deep depression over west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal moved with a speed of 13 kmph and lay centred about 160 km south-southeast of Gopalpur in Odisha and 170 km east of Kalingapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.
The system was around 200 km south of Puri in Odisha), 250 km east-northeast of Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and 280 km south-southwest of Paradip in Odisha.
It is very likely to continue to move north-north-westwards and cross Odisha and adjoining Andhra Pradesh coasts between Gopalpur and Paradip by night of October 2.
Under its influence, heavy to very heavy rain coupled with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty wind is likely to continue in Odisha till the morning of October 4.
Warnings By IMD:
In next 24 hours, scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall with isolated extremely heavy falls and thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Puri, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput, Ganjam, Kalahandi, and Kandhamal. The IMD has issued a red warning for these districts.
Similarly, orange warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorm with lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph has been issued for Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Dhenkanal, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Balangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Angul, Jajpur, and Kendrapada.
Yellow warning has been issued for Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, and Nuapada districts.
On October 3-4, orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph has been issued for Sundargarh district.
Likewise, yellow warning of heavy rainfall and thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind has been issued for the districts of Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jharsuguda, and Bargarh.
Squally Weather:
Squally wind speed reaching 55-65 gusting to 75 kmph is likely to prevail over west-central & adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal and along and off Andhra Pradesh- Odisha- West Bengal coasts till midnight of Thursday. Winds would gradually decrease thereafter becoming 40-50 gusting to 60 kmph by October 3 morning and decrease further thereafter.
Sea Condition & Warning For Fishermen:
Sea condition is likely to be rough to very rough over west-central & adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal and along & off Andhra Pradesh-Odisha-West Bengal coasts till afternoon of October 3.
Fishermen are advised not to venture into west-central & adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal and along & off Andhra Pradesh-Odisha-West Bengal coasts till evening of October 3.
