New Delhi: The fissures in the INDIA bloc have been visible for some time. It’s now completely out in the open with the biggest partner Congress being completely isolated ahead of next month’s Delhi Assembly elections.
A day after Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav offered support to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the fight against BJP, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal announced on Wednesday that the Trinamool Congress (TMC) will also be backing his party which is seeking a hat-trick of victories in Delhi.
The Shiv Sena (UBT) is also planning to campaign for AAP, with Kejriwal learnt to be is in touch with Uddhav Thackeray, India Today TV reported quoting sources.
So even as AAP enjoys the backing of some big players like SP and TMC, Congress will be without support from INDIA bloc allies for the February 5 election.
There is no love lost between AAP and Congress as far as Delhi is concerned, with Kejriwal ruling out any possibility of joining forces with the grand old party and announcing it will contest alone. Significantly, AAP and Congress did stitch an alliance for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls but was routed as BJP bagged all 7 Parliamentary seats.
AAP recently went to the extent of saying it would consult other parties of INDIA bloc to remove Congress from the alliance after it filed a complaint against Kejriwal accusing him of “misleading and deceiving” the public with promises of “non-existent” welfare schemes.
In the 2015 and 2020 Assembly elections, on the other hand, AAP swept to victory with 67 and 62 seats, respectively, in the 70-member House.
