New Delhi: Investigators from Israel are expected to arrive in Delhi on Saturday to assist in the probe into the minor IED blast outside the Israeli embassy.
Notably, no one was injured in the blast in the high-security zone of Lutyens’ Delhi on Friday evening, but some cars were damaged.
Israeli Ambassador to India, Ron Malka said, “We are working with Indian authorities to find the perpetrators and the motive behind this attack. The incident happened on the 29th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between the countries.”
Delhi Police Additional PRO Anil Mittal said initial impressions suggest that it could be a mischievous attempt to create a sensation, India Today reported.
Sources said investigators have recovered an envelope addressed to the Israeli embassy containing a note at the blast site. The note reportedly talks about “revenge” and the explosion being just a “trailer”, the sources added.
Investigators have also found broken pieces of a cold drink can and ball bearings from the spot. Primary examination suggests that explosives and ball bearings were stuffed in the cold drink can.
Significantly, the blast took place when President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi were present a few kilometres away at the Beating Retreat ceremony at the culmination of the Republic Day celebrations.
