New Delhi: The heat wave in India going from bad to worse.

The national capital, already reeling under unbearable climate, experienced boiling conditions on Sunday with the mercury soaring to 49 degrees Celsius.

Mungeshpur in northwest Delhi recorded 49.2 degrees, while it was 49.1 degrees at Najafgarh.

The maximum temperature at Safdarjung Observatory, the capital’s base station, rose to 45.6 degrees Celsius — highest this year so far and five degrees above normal.

Gurugram also reeled under extreme heat as the maximum temperature was 48.1 degrees Celsius — the highest since May 10, 1966.

Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has already sounded an orange alert for most parts of northwestern India, warning of severe heat wave conditions.

There is, however, a ray of hope for Delhiites as IMD has predicted a thunderstorm or dust storm on Monday.
