New Delhi: Phool Mia (43), a fruit-seller in North Delhi’s Jagatpuri received donations of over Rs 8 lakh from the public after some passers-by looted his mangoes worth Rs 30,000 amid the COVID-19 lockdown.
As reported by NDTV, over 100 people sent money to Mia’s bank account circulated by the media company over social media.
“Now I can celebrate Eid with my children. This shows humanity is still alive,” he told ANI.
The incident happened after some rickshaw-pullers asked him to leave the place on Thursday morning. In order to avoid any argument, he left his cart. But when he returned, he saw 50-100 people looting his mangoes, Mia said.
Besides, a clip of the incident went viral on social media. It showed people stealing mangoes from the crates.
The fruit-seller filed a complaint on Friday following which four people have been arrested so far.
