New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Saturday issued a notice to Arvind Kejriwal’s wife Sunita Kejriwal asking her to take down the video recording of court proceedings when the Delhi CM addressed the court in person after he was arrested in the liquor policy case.
A division bench also directed X, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube as well as a host of other social media platforms to remove similar content when it comes to their notice.
The bench of Justices Neena Bansal Krishna and Amit Sharma was hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by advocate Vaibhav Singh.
The concerned video is from March 28, when Kejriwal addressed Special Judge (PC Act) Kaveri Baweja when the Delhi CM was produced before the court following his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 21.
Advocate Singh argued before the court that several social media handles associated with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and other Opposition parties made video/audio recordings of court proceedings of March 28 and posted those on social media platforms.
Sunita also reposted an audio recording of Kejriwal’s address to the court on X.
According to Singh, recording of court proceedings is prohibited under the ‘High Court of Delhi Rules for Video Conferencing for Courts 2021’ and making these videos viral was an effort to malign the image of the judiciary and judges.
He further claimed that posting such videos was part of the conspiracy hatched by Kejriwal and his party.
