New Delhi: In a disturbing incident from Delhi’s Hauz Qazi area, police have arrested a 39-year-old man for allegedly raping his 65-year-old mother on two occasions, claiming he was “punishing” her for supposed past relationships.
According to the complaint, the elderly woman, accompanied by her younger daughter, approached the Hauz Qazi police station to narrate her ordeal. The family had recently returned from a religious trip to Saudi Arabia on August 1, when the abuse began. The accused reportedly locked his mother in a room, forced her to remove her burqa, assaulted her, and accused her of having “spoiled” him during childhood.
Terrified, the woman initially sought shelter at her elder daughter’s home but returned to her family residence days later. However, the nightmare continued. On August 11, under the pretext of wanting to talk to her in private, the accused locked her again in a room and raped her, justifying it as punishment for her “past mistakes.” Days later, on August 14, at around 3:30 am, he assaulted her again.
Unable to bear the trauma, the woman confided in her younger daughter, who convinced her to approach the police. A case was registered under Section 64 (rape) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and the accused has since been arrested. The investigation is ongoing.
This incident has once again highlighted the vulnerability of women—even within their own homes—where they should feel safest. It underlines the urgent need for stronger awareness, sensitivity, and social support to ensure survivors of such heinous crimes find justice and protection.
