New Delhi: In an uncanny similarity with Shraddha Walkar murder case, a 24-year-old man allegedly strangled his girlfriend after an argument over his impending marriage, stuffed her body inside a refrigerator of his dhaba (eatery) in southwest Delhi, and went off to marry another woman the same day, police said on Wednesday.

Police recovered the woman’s body from the eatery on Tuesday morning while looking for the accused, identified as Sahil Gehlot, at Mitraon village. The dhaba was around 700 metres from the house of the accused.

According to reports, the woman, Nikki Yadav, had threatened to implicate Sahil in a case if he married another woman. The wedding took place on Friday.

The sequence of events

The victim confronted the accused about his marriage on the intervening night of February 9 and 10 after he picked her up from her flat at Uttam Nagar.

There was a heated argument between them when he refused to accompany her on a trip to Goa for which she had booked the tickets.

In a fit of rage, he strangulated her using the data cable of his mobile phone in his car.

He then took the body in his vehicle to the dhaba which had not been operational for a long time.

After stuffing the body inside the fridge, he locked the dhaba.

On February 10, police received a secret input about Sahil Gehlot killing his girlfriend and marrying another girl on the day of the murder.

His mobile phone was found switched off and police recovered the body after an intensive search at Mitraon village and nearby areas.

Sahil was later nabbed from Kair village in Delhi.

A case registered under IPC Sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of an offence committed, or giving false information to screen offender).

Police are also looking for CCTV footage of the incident to ascertain the exact location of the murder.
