Delhi-Mumbai Rs 10K Max; Govt Caps Air Fares According To Flight Duration

New Delhi: Domestic flights, which will resume from May 25, will see price capping for the next three months, the government announced on Thursday.

The capping is being done to keep a balance between making flights affordable for passengers and keeping it profitable for airlines.

Apart from strict hygiene and social distancing protocols, Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said that tickets for Delhi-Mumbai route will be priced between a minimum Rs 3,500 and a maximum Rs 10,000. Also, 40 per cent of all seats on a flight must be sold at a price less “than the midpoint of the band”.

In other words, for a Delhi-Mumbai flight, at least 72 seats out of 180 will be sold between Rs 3,500 and Rs 6,750. The maximum capping here is Rs 10,000.

Hardeep Singh Puri also notified that flight routes will be divided into 7 sections according to the duration of flight:

1. Less than 40 mins

2. 40-60 mins

3. 60-90 mins

4. 90-120 mins

5. 120-150 mins

6. 150-180 mins

7. 180-210 mins

The minimum and maximum fares for each section will be fixed and notified soon.
