New Delhi: A Delhi Police constable was crushed to death by a car in a suspected incident of road rage at Nangloi in North-West Delhi. The incident took place in the wee hours at around 3 am.
The driver and another person abandoned the vehicle and fled the spot. The police have launched a manhunt to nab them.
“A constable was killed as he was crushed by a car in a road rage incident in the Nagloi area last night after he asked the car driver to move the car. The constable was allegedly dragged for 10 meters and hit another car. The police have seized the car while the accused is absconding,” the Delhi Police said in a statement.
A video clip of the incident shows a man riding his scooter is run over by a speeding car. According to police sources, Sandeep, a constable at the Nangloi police station, was patrolling in plain clothes amid rising cases of dacoity in the area. An India Today report said that the constable signalled the car which was being driven recklessly to stop. The car, instead of stopping, ran over him.
In an obituary posted on X, Delhi Police said, “Delhi Police family pays obeisance to Constable Sandeep, of PS Nangloi, who lost his life in an unfortunate incident. We stand with the departed soul’s bereaved family in this difficult time.”
Though Delhi Police have denied that the incident has any links to liquor mafia, some local sources tweeted on X that the Wagon R involved in the incident belongs to a person who is active in liquor business.
