Delhi Police Detain Former Tripura Minister For Molesting Student

New Delhi: Delhi Police have detained former Tripura cabinet minister Mevar Kumar Jamatia for molesting a student. Acting on a complaint filed last night, Delhi Police booked and detained the MLA. An FIR has been registered under Sections 354 (use of assault or criminal force against a woman) and Section 354A (punishment for sexual harassment) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

A student from Tripura had filed a complaint with the Delhi Police on Tuesday night about the incident, India Today reported quoting sources.

On Wednesday morning, the Delhi Police registered an FIR. The MLA was served a notice under Section 41A (notice of appearance before a police officer). The MLA is being questioned by the police. Mevar Kumar Jamatia was taken in by Delhi Police, and the Joint Resident Commissioner of Tripura Bhawan, Ranjit Das, informed the Tripura government about the incident. As per the letter, the Delhi Police had reached Tripura Bhawan on Tuesday night to record the victim’s statement.

The letter read, “It is to inform you that a team of Delhi Police visited Tripura Bhawan twice yesterday night and met the victim, who is a student studying in Delhi. They recorded her statement regarding her complaint against Mevar Kumar Jamatia.
