New Delhi: Delhi is getting ready to store COVID-19 vaccines for its citizens. The Rajiv Gandhi Super Speciality Hospital in East Delhi is developing a cold storage facility to help facilitate the phase 1 of the vaccination drive.

As and when the vaccines arrive, two centres are being identified in Delhi to become the hub of the cold storage facility. The facilities are expected to deliver vaccines to over 600 locations across the city.

“We have been told to provide this space for the cold storage of Covid-19 vaccines. This is from where we will be supplying vaccines to the people of Delhi. The ground and first floor will have deep freezers, coolers, cold storage boxes and the equipment needed to store the vaccines,” RGHS spokesperson was quoted as saying by India Today.

The new facility at RGHS, which is currently under renovation, is likely to be ready for storage by December 15.

According to the report, freezers of -40 degrees, -20 degrees and those that store between 2-8 degrees will be placed for various kinds of vaccines. Three vaccine candidates that include Pfizer India, Serum Institute-Oxford vaccine Covisheild and Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin are in the fray for emergency use authorisation.
