Delhi Records Its Highest-Ever Temperature Of 52.3°C As North India Swelters

New Delhi: With intense heatwave gripping northern parts of the state, Delhi recorded the highest-ever temperature of 52.3 degree Celsius on Wednesday.

According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), Northwest Delhi’s Mungeshpur reported the record-breaking temperature at 2.30 pm.

With soaring temperatures, Delhi also saw an all-time high power demand of 8,302 megawatts (MW) as use of power-intensive air-conditioning by residents increased, NDTV reported quoting electricity department officials.

The city, however, witnessed sudden weather change with light drizzle later.

This comes a day after Mungeshpur and North Delhi’s Narela clocked their maximum temperature at 49.9 degrees Celsius.

The IMD has predicted heatwave to severe heat wave conditions in most/many parts of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh on May 29 and gradual reduction thereafter with heat wave conditions in isolated/some parts till June 1.
