New Delhi: The national capital on Sunday saw simultaneous protests by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and BJP.
AAP leaders, ministers, MLAs, councillors, workers, and supporters began a collective fast ‘samuhik upwaas’ at 10 am at Jantar Mantar here in protest against the arrest of Kejriwal in the Delhi liquor policy. The party supporters were seen sitting with pictures of Kejriwal behind bars, and singing bhajans. “Fasting purifies the mind and soul. We will pray to god today to bless (Delhi CM) Arvind Kejriwal as this path of struggle requires enormous strength,” AAP leader Sandeep Pathak told PTI.
The AAP is organising the mass event across the 25 states, alongside New York, Boston, Los Angeles, Washington DC, Toronto, Melbourne and London. Party leader Gopal Rai said that Kejriwal’s supporters across India and abroad are participating in ‘samuhik upwaas’. “People can also observe the fast at their homes and support the Delhi Chief Minister,” he added.
The party has also asked party workers to post their photos while observing fasts on a website and also on X.
“Today from 10 AM onwards, the entire nation will observe a fast against the conspiratorial arrest of @ArvindKejriwal ji. Send us your photos and messages while fasting on this website – kejriwalkoaashirvaad.com. Do not forget to tag us with the photos of your fast on Twitter. Dictatorship will lose, democracy will win,” the post read.
Meanwhile, the BJP is also holding a counter-protest, dubbed “Sharab se sheesh Mahal“, intended at revealing the “corruption model” of Arvind Kejriwal. “People of Delhi can see the Red Fort, Qutub Minar, Akshardham temple, Lotus Temple, Kartavya Path, but cannot see the Chief Minister’s scum of corruption as they cannot go inside it (Kejriwal’s Raj Mahal),” Delhi party president Virendraa Sachdeva told ANI.
“The story of ‘Sharab to Sheesh’ is the story of Delhi corruption and the guilty is Arvind Kejriwal,” he added.
