New Delhi: Delhi Minister Atishi was admitted to the hospital early on Tuesday after her sugar level plummeted to 36 while on an indefinite hunger strike over the water crisis in the national capital.

She has been admitted to ICU of Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital here.

Atishi began her hunger strike on Friday in protest against Haryana’s refusal to release Delhi’s “rightful share of water”. She had continued her hunger strike despite being advised to get admitted to the hospital on Monday evening. “Her sugar levels declined and the presence of ketones was detected in her urine. At midnight, as her condition deteriorated and she was drowsy, she was admitted. She is currently stable and in the ICU. Her blood tests are being done,” Hindustan Times reported quoting LNJP Medical Director Dr Suresh Kumar.

Her condition is stable, he added.

Sharing the information with media, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh said that he will now be writing to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide the national capital with its rightful share of water from Haryana.

The party also wrote on X, “Water Minister Atishi’s health deteriorates. Her blood sugar level dropped to 43 at midnight and to 36 at 3 am, after which LNJP hospital doctors advised immediate hospitalisation…She has not eaten anything for the last five days and is on an indefinite hunger strike demanding the Haryana government to release Delhi’s share of water. She’s been admitted to the emergency ICU at LNJP. We pray for her speedy recovery.”

Delhi’s water requirement is 1,005 million Gallons per Day (MGD), of which 613 MGD comes from  Haryana. The Water Minister alleged that Haryana was releasing only 513 MGD of water to Delhi and reduced supply to Delhi even more after she went on strike.
