New Delhi: The nation’s capital erupted in protest on Monday a day after a 20-year-old woman was killed after being dragged for 4 km by a car in Sultanpuri area here.
In a horrific New Year’s Day tragedy, police found her body without clothes and broken limbs.
Thousands protested in front of Sultanpuri police station and other places, demanding a thorough investigation and strict action against the culprits. They blamed Delhi police for failing to notice the woman being dragged by the car for a long distance despite CCTVs being installed at most pla.
Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal demanded that the culprits be hanged.
“This is a rarest of rare crime.. the culprits, whoever they are, deserve to be hanged to death,” Kejriwal said.
The National Commission for Women has written to Delhi Police Commissioner, demanding a fair and time-bound investigation into the incident.
“NCW has also sought that the victim’s post mortem must be conducted to ascertain whether the victim was sexually assaulted or not and to invoke relevant provisions in the FIR if allegations levelled by victim’s mother are found to be true,” the panel tweeted.
Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena assured that all aspects of the case are being looked into.
“My head hangs in shame over the inhuman crime in Kanjhawla-Sultanpuri and I am shocked at the monstrous insensitivity of the perpetrators. Have been monitoring with @CPDelhi and the accused have been apprehended. All aspects are being thoroughly looked into,” he tweeted.
Police Shielding BJP Leader?
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) spokesperson Saurabh Bharadwaj claimed that BJP leader Manoj Mittal is among the accused in the case, but Delhi Police is trying to shield him, reported India Today.
According to AAP, the woman was “probably sexually assaulted, probably raped”.
Accusing Delhi Police of treating the case with a “lax attitude”, Bharadwaj said it was a clear case of “connivance” as the accused were charged with “weak sections” under IPC to shield the accused persons.
