Delhi’s IGI First Indian Airport To Start COVID-Testing Facility

New Delhi: The Indira Gandhi International airport in the capital has become the first airport in the country to start a COVID-19 testing facility.

Passengers who land from overseas at the international terminal can opt to get tested for coronavirus. If a person tests negative at the airport, he/she will be exempted from mandatory institutional quarantine, officials said.

Passengers who carry an RT-PCR negative report – done 96 hours before the journey — are allowed for onward journey and can seek exemption from institutional quarantine.

The testing facility has been set up over a 3,500 square metre area at the car park of Terminal 3. The Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) has linked up with a Delhi-based laboratory to test COVID samples.

The temporary lab can handle 2,500 samples per day.
