Bhubaneswar: Toughening its stand on demonstrations and rallies violating the guidelines of COVID-19 pandemic, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Saturday instructed the police to take legal action in such cases without waiting for its complaints.
The BMC, in a release said, some organisations, political parties and groups have been found staging demonstration before public offices and at public places. In the last two to three days, the BMC has filed five such cases at different police stations, it said.
Stating that such gathering is strictly prohibited as per the order of the Home Ministry and Odisha government, the release said the norm of social distancing was clearly violated at the protest meetings.
In order to prevent the spread of coronavirus due to public gathering and ensure safety of the people, the BMC ordered that demonstration or rally by any organisation, group or party is strictly prohibited in the areas under its jurisdiction. If any such case comes to the notice of the BMC, the police station concerned will be informed immediately for legal action.
