Bhubaneswar: Odisha witnessed a spurt in dengue cases as total 488 persons have tested positive for the disease so far this season.
According to official sources, Khurda district accounted for highest 130 dengue cases. As many as 33 persons tested positive for the disease on Wednesday. The Health department has carried out test of 35,470 persons so far, they said.
Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja held a high-level meeting to hold discussion on the matter on Wednesday. The secretaries of all departments concerned attended it. They were told to take preventive measures to check the mosquito breeding.
Meanwhile, Public Health Director Dr Nilakantha Mishra said the School and Mass Education department has been directed to take a number of steps to protect the students from dengue.
The headmasters of the schools have been told to create awareness among the students about the disease. Besides, they have been asked to provide mosquito nets to the students staying in hostels and ensure that stagnated water is not allowed on the premises and ensure regular fogging.
