Nayagarh: Dengue seems to have spread its tentacles in Nayagarh district with as many as 128 confirmed cases reported so far.
Despite all possible measures such as cleanliness drives in dengue-affected areas to curb the disease, dengue still remains a potential threat for the residents.
“The patients are deprived of getting reports for their blood tests for dengue at the district headquarters hospital. Owing to this, they are forced to visit other hospitals in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack for the same. Moreover, with the dengue ward inside the premises of the hospital remaining closed all the time, patients are being treated at the general ward of the hospital,” a patient alleged.
“The spurt in dengue cases in the past two weeks has put the district administration in a quandary with highest number of patients belonging to Manitri village under Bhapur block of the district.
On Sunday, a person identified as Soumyaranjan Nayak (18) of Kujanga in Jagatsinghpur district succumbed to dengue at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
According to sources, Soumyaranjan was undergoing treatment at the SCB. He was admitted to the hospital on September 20. Later, he was later shifted to the ICU of the Medicine Ward as his condition deteriorated.
In last six months, a total of five dengue patients have been died, including two on September 10, at the premier hospital. An under-trial prisoner (UTP) from Rayagada was also among them.
The number of dengue patients admitted to SCB has been increasing with every passing day. A special dengue ward has also been set up in the hospital.
The first dengue death was reported in the Odisha capital this season on June 7. The deceased was identified as Pratima Das of the BDA Colony at Chandrasekharpur here.
