Dengue Infection Count Crosses 1000 In Odisha Capital; No Deaths Claims BMC Official

Bhubaneswar: The dengue tally in the Odisha capital has breached the 1000-mark with the detection of 38 new cases in the last 24 hours.

Since January 1, 1,009 people have been infected by the vector-borne disease and 98 per cent (997) of these cases have been reported in the last 41 days.

The city saw only 3 cases of dengue in January, and two more in February. Another 3 cases were added to the affected tally in March and 2 more in April. There were nil cases in May while two persons were found infected in June. The dengue infection count soared to 563 in July with the detection of 551 cases.

The last 10 days of August has seen 446 new dengue patients.

This is more than double of dengue cases (496) reported in Odisha in 2020.

The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Tuesday informed that 706 patients have been cured.

Additional district urban public health officer (ADUPHO) Antaryami Mishra told Odisha Bytes that maximum cases have been reported from Niladri Vihar. He, however, refuted media reports claiming that two persons, including a minor, had died of dengue.

The BMC official further said that 32813 breeding sites, including 32487 with larvae, have so far been destroyed. Fogging and anti-larval measures are being taken to contain the spread of the disease.
