Kalyansinghpur: In another case of ambulance failure due to lack of motorable road, a woman delivered a dead girl child while being carried to hospital in a sling on Tuesday.
The incident was reported from Pakheru village in Niyamayagiri hills of Rayagada district.
According to reports, Alema Sikaka of Dongaria tribe experienced labour pain this morning. Her family members dialed 108 and and 102 ambulance services, but none responded. They then made a sling with the help of a blanket and carried her over the hilly terrain for around 4 km. The next 12 km till Baddwara Sahi was covered in a pick-up van.
The woes of the tribal woman did not end there. She was again put in the sling and carried across the Kalyani river. Even as the family members were struggle to reach the hospital, she delivered a dead baby girl near Nirgundi village.
Alek is currently undergoing treatment at Kalyansinghpur community health centre and her condition is stated to be critical.
