Bhubaneswar: A man allegedly poured petrol and set himself on fire at Balipatna Chhak in Odisha’s Khurda district on Friday.
The victim has been identified as Jyoti Ranjan Mathia.
According to sources, he allegedly took the extreme step after his father denied him a share in his property following his second marriage. Locals rushed to his help and doused the flames before alerting police. The man with around 80% burn was initially admitted to the community health centre at Balipatna and later shifted to Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar as his condition deteriorated.
His wife, Bijaylaxmi, alleged that it had been an ongoing dispute. His father, Surendra Mathia, had badly thrashed him over the issue about 8 years ago. Jyoti allegedly set himself ablaze in their house this morning as his father paid no heed to his repeated requests, she claimed.
