Dense Fog, Severe Cold Grip Odisha, Damanjodi Records Season’s Lowest At 2.9°C



Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s Koraput district is experiencing one of its coldest spells with Damanjodi recording the season’s lowest temperature at 2.9°C on Thursday.

According to sources, thick fog has further worsened the situation, disrupting travel, everyday life, and outdoor activities. Residents are finding it increasingly difficult to step outdoors during early mornings — up to around 9 am — and late evenings.

Semiliguda in Koraput was close second at

3.9°C followed by Lamtaput at 4.3°C and Nandapur at 4.6°C. Koraput, on the other hand, recorded 6.4°C.

The other places in Odisha, where the mercury hovered around 10°C or below, include G Udayagiri, Phulbani and Daringbadi, all in Kandhamal district, at 5°C, 7.5°C and 8°C respectively, Jharsuguda (8.2°), Chipilima in Bargarh (8.4°C), Boudh and Kirei in Sundargarh at 9.3°C each, Nabarangpur (9.8°C), and Rourkela (10°C), according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded 13.9°C and 13.4°C respectively. Dense fog also occurred in Rourkela and Phulbani and moderate fog in Bhawanipatna.

While dense fog warning has been issued for Sundargarh & Kandhamal districts till December 20 morning, the weather agency has forecast no large change in the minimum temperature during the next 7 days.
