Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red warning for Odisha as the well-marked Low Pressure over northeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining southeast Bangladesh is expected to intensify into a Depression by Saturday.
“The Low-Pressure area over southeast Bangladesh and neighbourhood moved west-northwestwards and persisted as a well marked system over northeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining southeast Bangladesh coast at 8.30 am. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a Depression over coastal West Bengal and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal by tomorrow,” according to a midday bulletin.
Under its influence, the wet spell may continue in Odisha till September 15, it added.

Thunderstorm with lightning and heavy rainfall may occur at isolated places in Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Puri, Nabarangpur, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Nuapada and Balangir districts.
Thunderstorm with lightning is also likely at isolated places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi ,Malkangiri and Koraput.

Red Warning
Isolated heavy to very heavy falls (7 to 20cm) with isolated extremely heavy rainfall (>20cm) accompanied by thunderstorm with lightning may occur at isolated places in Mayurbhanj district.
Orange Warning
Heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20cm) along with thunderstorm and lightning is also likely at isolated places in Keonjhar, Balasore and Bhadrak.
Yellow Warning
Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning may continue at isolated places in Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Sundargarh,Deogarh, Angul and Dhenkanal.
Thunderstorm with lightning is also likely isolated places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Balangir, Sambalpur, Bargarh and Jharsuguda.

Yellow Warning
Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) may continue at isolated places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh and Sundargarh districts.
WIND WARNING
Due to strong monsoon current, squally weather with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40 to 50 kmph very likely from September 13-15 over North Bay of Bengal, along and off North Odisha coast. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into North Bay of Bengal; along and off North Odisha coast during this period.
