New Delhi: A well-marked low pressure area over southeast Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood has concentrated into a depression, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Monday.
It is very likely to intensify into a deep depression during the next 24 hours and then further into a cyclonic storm, the IMD added.
As of 5.30 am on Monday, the system lay centred over southeast Bay of Bengal about 750 km east-southeast of Trincomalee (Sri Lanka) and 1,150 km east-southeast of Kanyakumari (India).
According to an IMD forecast, it is very likely to move west-northwestwards and cross Sri Lanka coast around evening on December 2. It is very like to move nearly westwards thereafter and emerge into Comorin area on the morning of December 3, the IMD said.
