Bhubaneswar: A well-marked low-pressure area persisted over southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of Southeast Sri Lanka & Equatorial Indian Ocean as Cyclone Senyar crossed the Indonesia coast on Wednesday morning with wind speeds of 70-80 kmph gusting to 90 kmph.
According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), the storm is likely to continue to move westsouthwestwards, maintaining its intensity, till November 27 early morning and recurve eastwards thereafter, gradually weakening during the subsequent 24 hours.
The other system is likely to move nearly northnorthwestwards and intensify into a depression during the next 24 hours. “Thereafter, it is very likely to intensify further and continue to move north-nor
thwestwards across southwest Bay of Bengal towards North Tamil Nadu & Puducherry coasts during the subsequent 48 hours,” it added.
Under the influence of this system, heavy to very heavy rainfall likely over Tamil Nadu from November 26 to December 1 with isolated extremely heavy falls on November 29-30. Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely over coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam and Rayalaseema on November 29-30 and over Kerala & Mahe on November 26.
Meanwhile in Odisha, dry weather may continue to prevail till December 3 with shallow to moderate fog at one or two places in the districts of Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Sundargarh till November 27 morning.
The IMD further indicated a drop in the night temperature across the state by 2-3 degrees during the next 2 days with a possibility of change in the wind pattern. However, the mercury levels may gradually rise again by 2-3 degrees during the subsequent 5 days.
In the last 24 hours, G Udayagiri in Kandhamal was the coldest at 8.6°C, followed by Semiliguda in Koraput at 9.5°C, Daringbadi, also in Kandhamal, at 10°C, Rourkela at 10.1°C and Jharsuguda at 10.4°C, which was 4.3 degrees below normal.
Bhubaneswar and Cuttack also recorded below normal temperatures of 16°C and 14.6°C respectively. The night temperature in the twin cities may drop below 15°C in these two days.
