Bhubaneswar: While light to moderate rain is likely to continue in Odisha till October 21, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued yellow warning for some places in the state on October 17-18 amid forecast about intensification of well-marked low-pressure areas over Bay of Bengal into a depression in the next 24 hours.
“The well-marked low pressure area over the central part of south Bay of Bengal persisted over the same region at 8.30 am. It is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression over southwest Bay of Bengal during next 24 hours. It is likely to continue to move west-northwestwards towards north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coasts during subsequent 24 hours,” according to the midday bulletin.
It also informed about a cyclonic circulation over westcentral Bay of Bengal off south coastal Andhra Pradesh.
The weather agency has sounded yellow warning of thunderstorm with lightning for isolated places in Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts on October 17, and Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Nabarangpur, Koraput and Malkangiri on October 18.
