Depression Over Bay Of Bengal Not Likely To Trigger Rainfall In Odisha Soon

Bhubaneswar: A depression is most likely to form over East-Central Bay of Bengal next week, said India Meteorological Department (IMD) in a release on Saturday.

“A cyclonic circulation over the Gulf of Thailand and neighbouring areas is most likely turn into a low-pressure area and form over north Andaman Sea around November 4. It is very likely to move in a west-north-west direction and concentrate into a depression over East-Central Bay of Bengal during the subsequent two-three days,” the release said.

Talking to the media here, duty officer of Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, Laxmidhar Mahapatra said there is no rainfall warning in the state till November 6. The movement of the system can only be determined after this, he added.

On the other hand, the US-based National Centre for Environment Prediction (NCEP) has said that the developing system over the north Andaman Sea is unlikely to progress into a tropical cyclone.

Meanwhile, IMD has predicted heavy rainfall in Andaman and Nicobar and the southern states of Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka in the next 24 hours.
