Depression To Bring Rain To Coastal Odisha, Cyclone Threat Remains

Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area was formed over the North Andaman Coast on Monday morning, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in a release.

According to the IMD, the low-pressure will move in the west-north-west direction and very likely concentrate into a depression over the east-central Bay of Bengal within the next 72 hours by November 7 and then move towards the north-north-west direction.

“We have to wait for at least three days to determine the movement of the depression and the areas it is going to have a landfall. But there will be a change in the weather condition under the influence of the depression as rainfall activity in the coastal districts of Odisha will start after November 7,” duty officer of the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, Laxmidhar Mahapatra, told the media here.

He further said that the fishermen have been advised not to venture into the east-Central Bay of Bengal and those who have gone for deep-sea fishing should return by October 5.

According to the director of the Environment and Climate (CEC), SOA Deemed to be University, Dr Sarat Chandra Sahu, the depression is expected to concentrate into a deep depression after the weakening of the cyclonic storm Maha in the Arabian Sea.

“The condition is favourable for the depression to concentrate into a cyclonic storm most likely by November 8 with a wind speed of 100-120 kmph,” Sahu added.
