New Delhi: Rajasthan has seen a power tussle among the young and old brigade of the Congress Party which could split the party and engineer a collapse for the Ashok Gehlot-led state government.
A similar incident happened four months ago, when Madhya Pradesh saw powerful leader Jyotiraditya Scindia walking out of the party to join BJP.
According to reports, Rajasthan’s young leader Sachin Pilot has reportedly broken away 25 MLAs who have already arrived in Delhi, accompanying the leader. Three independent MLAs also switched allegiance, it is learnt.
However, even if 25 MLAs defect, the number won’t be enough for BJP to topple the Rajasthan government as yet. In that case the halfway point would fall to 88, while BJP has 72 MLAs in the state. Three each from RLP and Independents can take the tally to 78, still four short of staking claim to form government.
