Bhubaneswar: Despite rainfall activities in some districts, the day temperature in Odisha has witnessed a sharp rise in the last 24 hours.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in a morning bulletin on Saturday said that the east-west trough running from the cyclonic circulation associated with the western disturbance over central Pakistan and adjoining Punjab to east Uttar Pradesh across south Haryana and west Uttar Pradesh has become less marked. As a result, the wind blowing from the sea towards the surface has been stopped and the hot wind blowing from the west-central range has resulted in the sharp rise in the day temperature.

The day temperature recorded in the last 24 hours till 8.30 am on Saturday was the highest in Bhawanipatna and Paralakhemundi at 37 degree Celsius each while the mercury touched 34 degree Celsius and above in Cuttack (34), Bhubaneswar (35.4), Angul (35.9), Baripada (34.5), Talcher (34.1), Balangir (36), Koraput (34.5), Phulbani (34), Titlagarh (36.2), Malkangiri (35.8), Sonepur (35), Nayagarh (36), Boudh (35.5) and Rayagada (35).

While the weather in most parts of the state remained dry except in Phulbani (11.6mm of rain), the IMD has said that the day temperature in the state will rise further despite sporadic rainfall in some districts in the next four till March 17.

The IMD has also issued yellow warning for thunderstorm, lightning and gusty surface with wind speed reaching 30 to 40 kmph at one or two places in Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Bhadrak districts on Saturday.

Besides, there will be light to moderate rain or thundershower at one or two places in Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Deogarh, Angul, Boudh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Balangir, Dhenkanal and Sambalpur on Sunday, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kandhamal, Boudh, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore and Nayagarh on Monday and Koraput, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak and Kendrapada districts on Tuesday.
