Bihar Sharif: Thirty-six girl students had to be rushed to hospital in Nalanda, Bihar, after detergent powder was accidentally mixed into their mid-day meal instead of salt, triggering dizziness and vomiting.
The incident took place at the Middle School in Parasi village, where an NGO supplies the mid-day meal under the government scheme.
Principal Shailendra Kumar Singh said some students consumed food that was “mistakenly prepared with detergent instead of salt”, which triggered their symptoms. After initial first aid at the school, the children were shifted to Biharsharif Sadar Hospital as their condition worsened, as reported by DNA.
All Students Out Of Danger
Dr Jay Prakash Singh, the Civil Surgeon, confirmed that “all 36 children are out of danger” following treatment at the hospital. After receiving medical care, the students were discharged, and there were “no reports of any significant health issues”.
Minister Promises Action
Bihar Rural Development Minister Shravan Kumar visited the hospital, discussed the students’ treatment with doctors and announced that the government would conduct a “thorough inquiry into the lapses that occurred during meal preparation and serving”.
He said training for cooks and assistants would also be examined, and the district’s schools would undergo another review of food safety regulations.
