New Delhi: With the first phase of 2019 Lok Sabha elections witnessing turnouts similar to that in 2014, the Press Information Bureau (PIB), the Centre’s public relation machinery, has come out again with a tweaked scene from Bollywood’s classic Devdas to encourage voters to exercise their franchise.
“Babuji ne kaha gaon chhod do… Sab ne kaha Paro ko chhod do… Par koi bhi kahe main Vote dena nahi chhodunga,” reads a collage posted by the PIB with stills from from Devdas.
“Voting is citizens right, responsibility, and a duty. Don’t get swayed by what people say. Be a responsible citizen, go out and vote,” PIB tweeted along with the message.
Before the polls began on April 11, PIB had tweeted another parody of Shah Rukh Khan from the iconic Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge to urge people to vote in the national elections.
Leaders from across the sections have also been encouraging people to come out and vote. On April 11, the first day of voting, poling percentage remained roughly around 70 per cent, about three percentage points more than in the 2014 general elections.
